AIDS Walk this Sunday, October 17th at 2pm

Trinity folks will be walking again this year in AIDS Services of Austin’s annual AIDS Walk.  Sid will be there with other Trinity folks and our lovely rainbow banner, so feel free to join them at the southeast corner of the stadium seating shortly before the start of the walk at 2pm.

Austin City Hall Plaza
301 W. Cesar Chavez Street
Between Guadalupe & Lavaca Streets

12:30 pm – Sign-In Opens
1:30 pm – Opening Ceremonies
2:00 pm – AIDS Walk Step-Off

AIDS Walk Austin is almost 5K, or 3.1 miles, and takes under an hour to complete.

From AIDS Services Austin:

You are walking for people like Lorena, who was diagnosed with HIV in October 2009.

Lorena is a loving wife and mother to a two year old child. Despite the fact that Lorena has recently become infected, she has managed to work a full time job and attend all of her medical appointments. Lorena wants you to know that, without the help and support she receives through the Advocacy Program at ASA, the transition to accessing medical care would have been scary to go through alone. Lorena continues to struggle with many complications of this disease, but she continues to exude the beauty that shines through each time we see her.

When you support the AIDS Walk, you know that you are helping Lorena and hundreds like her. Thank you for your support!

Why we walk
We walk to honor, remember, and to raise funds to address this issue in our community. There are an estimated 6,000 people living with HIV and AIDS in Central Texas. About 20 percent of those 6,000 people are unaware of their status.

The money you help raise goes to AIDS Services of Austin and the fundraising teams of Austin’s other outstanding AIDS service and education providers. By walking, you are helping to raise HIV awareness, reduce stigma, and raise funds for life-saving services right here in Central Texas.

The AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display in public community spaces throughout the city, providing us the opportunity to remember those we’ve lost, honor those living with HIV, and celebrate a hopeful future.
