“Texas Impact – Issues in the 2011 Legislative Session”
Our November meeting will feature our friends from Texas Impact – “people of faith working for justice.” Texas Impact is a grassroots network for Texas religious communities. Its members include regional and statewide religious organizations, local congregations and alliances, and individuals.
With a projected $18 billion budget shortfall and redistricting, the 82nd Texas Legislative Session promises to be a complex one. Texas Impact will work to make sure that issues that are important for people of faith, such as meeting the needs of vulnerable Texans, are an integral part of the public policy debate. Texas Impact anticipates that the issues will include budget decisions, immigration, environment and energy policy, predatory lending, health care, and criminal justice reform.
Our MFSA chapter and its members will then decide which of these issues are the most consistent with our objectives, and we will examine how we can help as an organization and as individuals.
The meeting will be in the Fellowship Hall of Saint John’s UMC, 2140 Allandale Road in Austin. Come at 6:30p for snacks and mingling. The program begins at 7:00.
